The purpose of this blog is to document the journey of building our new home and garden. We purchased 8.5 acres in Gisborne, Victoria and will be building a beautiful, Federation-style brick home.
This tree-change has been awhile in the making but we are now on our way. We've sold our house, moved into a rental, decided on the house and floorplan that suits our lifestyle and Harkaway Homes posted our final plans last Friday so hopefully we will get them tomorrow. Now the real work begins.
I've started this blog for 2 reasons: one to record the process of building so that we have a documented history, and secondly, as an easy way to keep those interested up-to-date.
We are building as owner-builders. We decided to go this way as we couldn't seem to get what we want through a volume builder, even a small one. Plus I need flexibility in fit-out options in case I change my mind along the way! So I am going to be the project/site manager. Steve is going to earn the money to pay for it. Actually we will also be doing a few jobs along the way. How many and which ones will depend on our energy levels and how much I need to keep the budget from blowing out. Connor is raring to go and should be a big help.
This is our land looking to the front gates:
This is what we look at out the back:
We're off to a great start as we scored 7* on our Energy report. And that's not taking into account some higher insulation plans we have. So Steve should be nice and cosy in the cold winters of the Macedon Ranges.
Please stay with us as we take on the adventure of house building.
Thanks for checking in. Cheers!
